Finally, a new Pokémon game is going to be released in November! The new game, Pokémon Sword and Shield will be set in a new region, the Galar region. Galar will feature Pokémon from multiple regions like Kanto and Unova region, just to name a few. In this region, as usual you will be playing as a protagonist, facing 2 rivals, marnie and bede. Additionally, you will also be facing against Team Yell, a gang of Marnie’s supporters. The main antagonist is still unclear, many speculates that we will be facing team yell, unlike previous installations where we had to fight against large scale organisations that utilises morally corrupt methods to execute their goals.

In Sword and Shield, you will be able to obtain the Dynamax band, which will enable your Pokemon to transform into its Dynamax form, that is basically a bigger, boosted version of itself. The concept is similar to that of Mega Evolution, linking a particular item to a transformation and also enabling the Pokemon to execute the Dynamax move. Other than the Dynamax transformation, selected a Pokémon would take on the Galar form. The teaser only showed that Wheezing and Linoone exists in the Galar form, Linoone with a new metal look and an extra evolutionary form, Obstagoon. Wheezing on the other hand appears to have a grey body and green fumes that appear to be their beard and eyebrows. Additionally, Wheezing have top hats that are attached to both their bodies. Wheezing’s Galarian form is poison/fairy type, while zigzagoon evolution forms is dark/normal type. The legendaries in Sword and Shield are Zacian and Zamazenta. Zacian represents the sword, while Zamazenta represents the shield. So far, the type for the Legendaries have not been released yet, but some theorised that Zacian could be steel/fairy type, while Zamazenta could be steel/dark type.

Galar region exclusive Pokémon had been revealed! Featuring Cramorant, a blue, flying/water Pokémon and Polteagiest, a ghost type Pokémon. Both Pokémon are extremely unique, especially Cramorant, as flying/water Pokémon are not common, and its typing also poses as a great advantage against typings that are very commonly found it opposing party Pokémon. Furthermore, a new Galar exclusive Pokémon that caught many people’s attention was Morpeko, an electric/dark two-sided Pokémon that can change its form in the middle of combat as it gets hungrier and hungrier. It is quite unique, as its transformation is not determined by the item it is holding, unlike mega evolution or Dynamax form, and so far, there are no Pokémon that are even similar to Morpeko, all the more we should look forward to the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Other than new Pokémon, you will be able to access Pokémon stored on other platforms like Pokemon Go, Generation 6 and 8 Pokémon games by utilising Pokémon Home. However, the player will not be able to bring out Pokémon that are not made available in the Galar region. Due to this feature, many fans are frustrated that they are not able to bring over all the Pokémon that they stored from other games, and have left negative remarks towards the Pokémon Home. Many felt that the Pokémon Home system is pointless as they could not import Pokémon from other generations. However, they can transfer Galar region exclusive Pokémon to the other platforms, enabling players to fight others using Galar region Pokémon which is a special feat. Perhaps the reason as to why Nintendo designed Pokémon Home to only allow Pokémon from the Sword and Shield national dex to be transferred from other games is to allow Sword and Shield to remain unique, because it would not be unique if Pokémon from all regions are able to be transferred to the Galar region, there will be a very extensive dex, and the Developers would have to design, render and animate all the Pokémon that are available in the game. Thus, due to physical limitations, Nintendo made sure that only Galar region exclusive Pokémon can be transferred into the Galar Region.

The Gameplay in Sword and Shield will be quite similar to the older Pokemon games, but Pokemon encounter will be similar to Let’s Go: Eevee & Pikachu, where players can encounter Pokemon intentionally in the wild, unlike in the older generations, where the Pokemon encountered is random in the wild grass. Although the encounters are intentional, the probability of encountering each Pokemon remains the same. Once captured, the Pokemon will be sent to the Pokemon storage box, that will be managed by Rotomi, a Rotom that will be managing the your regional ID, something like your trainer identification card. While hunting for wild Pokémon, the player may encounter a Dynamax Raid, where you can fight and capture a Pokémon in Dynamax form that possesses a hidden ability that could benefit players in battles. Currently there are no news about the Galar elite 4, but there will be a Galar Champion and 4 gym leaders. However, some speculate that the Galar elite 4 will have a diverse roster of Pokemon instead of a roster of similar type Pokémon. The 4 gym leaders will specialise in grass type, water type, fighting type and ghost/dark type individually. However, the gym battle system will be different, as the gym will not be designed like a labyrinth, but it will be designed like a stadium fight. How the trainer work their way up to face the gym leader is still unannounced, the player ultimately have to face the gym leader in an intense Dynamax battle. As usual, the player has to clear all 4 gyms, while possibly facing against Team Yell on their way to defeating the Galar Champion.

Additionally, players will be able to level up Pokémon or even increase base points by sending them to do Pokéjobs. The Pokémon does not need to be in their current party, basically you can send Pokémon to do Pokéjobs to grow, but in the meanwhile, it will not be available for battle. Pokéjob is a way for players to level up and help the Pokémon grow without using EXP share. Furthermore, this feature is much better than EXP share, as you can send multiple Pokémon for Pokéjobs and their base points will increase depending on the job that they are sent on. This latest installation of the Pokémon game series will bring the trainer closer to the Pokémon not only through Pokéjobs, but through Pokémon camp too! In Pokémon camp, the player will be at a campground with all their party Pokémon, they would be able to play with their party Pokémon and let their Pokémon play with some Pokétoys too.

What sets Pokémon Sword and Shield apart from the other installations, is that this game allows all players to be fully immersed in the world of Pokémon. This game is highly versatile, as it allows players to customise many details, ranging from their avatar’s appearance to the picture that will be displayed when they face the league. The gameplay for Pokémon Sword and Shield will be far more immersive, as players will be able to interact more with the Pokémon around them, including the ones they encounter in the wild. To put into simple words, Pokémon Sword and Shield would be as if you combined the gameplay style of Let’s Go!: Pikachu and Eevee with the older generation games. November is nearing, and do not forget to cop a copy of Sword and Shield!
