Nintendo Switch is two years old now and it’s been consistently selling well since its launch on 3 March 2017. With Nintendo Switch, Nintendo nailed it with a well-built fun console, unlike the Wii U. The question arises that is it still worth buying after two years? If you want a short answer to those questions, it's YES! Yes, the Nintendo Switch is still worth buying, it’s an amazing and fun console that everyone can enjoy. After two years of release, there are many games for it that you can enjoy, and most of them are from Nintendo themselves.
There have been some rumors that an upgraded version might be launched this year, but no official confirmations have been made yet. An upgrade won't make a huge difference as it would most likely play the same games albeit at better fidelity, like in the case between Xbox one X and Xbox One. One thing to keep in mind is that Switch isn’t as powerful as the Xbox One or PS4, if you want pure graphical power, then the Switch is not for you.
Let's take a closer look at the console. Battery life is serviceable, it will last for about 3-5 hours on average. But you can't complain because you get to play full console games on a little tablet and that’s amazing. Joy Con controllers are a bit small for some people, but they can be attached to the Joy Con grip to look more like a traditional controller, slightly improving the comfort during gameplay. Each controller can be used separately if you are playing Mario Kart or games supporting local multiplayer, effectively providing users two controllers for impromptu gaming sessions. You can always buy the Nintendo pro controller, which it is much more comfortable to use over long sessions.
Nintendo Switch’s interface is pretty simple and doesn't have any unnecessary complexity. The Switch has only 32GB of built-in storage, which isn't enough if you are downloading the games. However, there is a micro SD card port available to expand the storage up to 2TB. Speakers on Nintendo Switch are fairly good, not very loud but clear enough. There is a handphone jack available to connect your headphones. With it’s 720p screen, it get the job done and can’t fault it too much as it’s easier for the battery life.
The biggest feature is that you can dock your Nintendo Switch any time and play at a bigger screen when home or take it out when on the move, for portable play. For those with little time for gaming, this is truly a godsend as it truly fit into your time schedule and not the other way around like the other consoles.
So far we have talked about the hardware of Nintendo Switch which is good enough for what it is. Let's talk about games. What really matters in the case of the Switch are the games and luckily games are very good. With titles like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros, Fortnite, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon let's go Pikachu / Eevee and many more, they are sure to keep you occupied throughout your trip or free time. The Switch is already worth buying only for these awesome games alone.
In the upcoming year, the game lineup keeps on growing with each passing month. Big name titles from Nintendo like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Pokemon Sword / Shield, Animal Crossings, Luigi’s Mansion and third-party blockbusters like Mortal Kombat 11, Doom Eternals, Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered, Wolfenstein: Youngblood and many more, makes the Switch a great console to play. Let’s not forget about the mesmerizing indie titles like Cuphead, Steamworld Quest, My friend Pedro, Cadence of Hyrule - Crypt of the Necrodancer ft. The Legend of Zelda, just to name a few. As such, there won’t be a shortage of games for you to play. *RIP Wallets*
